Meet Nicholas Maynard at Advanced Heat Treat Corp.

Nicholas, you joined the AHT team in June. Tell us about your training so far and how that has helped prepare you to better assist our customers with their heat treat needs.

The training has been enjoyable. Splitting time between the office and shop has given me a complete picture on how everyone is responsible for the success of both AHT and our customers. My key takeaway would be learning that every application is different. I’ve been trained to understand the customer’s goals, ask the right questions, and work closely with our metallurgy/quality team to recommend the best process for the job.

Prior to AHT, what was your professional background and how do you think that will come into play?

I spent 7+ years working around coal-fired power generation processing refined coal, where I worked my way up to be Operations Manager. I learned the importance of safety, reliability, planning, and managing people. That gave me firsthand experience with the challenges industrial facilities face every day. After that I transitioned into a role as Operations Manager of a powersports dealership. This allowed me to gain valuable knowledge in leading a team, building relationships and delivering a great customer experience. I have a full picture of both “sides of the coin”.

Nicholas and Johnny MaynardWhat enticed you to apply at Advanced Heat Treat Corp.?

The family connection was what put AHT on my radar.* As I learned more about the history of AHT and how they help manufacturers with a vast array of products, I grew to be extremely excited about the opportunity to apply.

*Editor's Note: Nicholas was referred by his father, Johnny Maynard (pictured), who is the operations/maintenance lead at AHT in Cullman, Alabama; and the sales manager position in Cullman, Alabama was previously held by Nicholas' brother-in-law.

What are some things you’ve found interesting during your onboarding?

Everything! I have really enjoyed learning how the material changes after heat treatment and how AHT controls that process. Also, seeing just how much manufacturing goes on in the US has been an eye-opener.

Nicholas Maynard When you’re not working at AHT, how do you like to spend your free time?

Hanging out with my wife (pictured), simracing on iRacing, watching any sportscar/endurance racing, and hanging out with the family. Did I mention racing?

What is an accomplishment – professional or personal – that you are proud of?

Professionally: I am proud of the impact I had on the team at the powersports dealership I managed before moving to Alabama. When I left, the gratitude and kind words from the employees hit me hard. I had been so focused on the daily challenges and future vision that I never stopped to appreciate how much we had grown together. Looking back, I’m proud of the business we built, but even more proud of the relationships we formed and the leader I became along the way. That experience gave me the confidence to keep challenging myself, embrace new opportunities, and never be afraid to start over and learn something new.

Personally: I am proud that I have 100% faith that Jesus Christ paid the ultimate price and died for me.

iRacingWhat is one thing people may not know about you?

People most likely won’t know that I’ve been passionate/obsessed about simracing for close to 25 years. This ‘hobby’ has turned into leading an endurance racing team. We compete in long-distance racing events that last anywhere from 6 to 24 hours. It’s a fun way to challenge myself and many of the lessons I learn carry over into my professional life.

What is one thing people may not know about AHT?

One thing that surprised me about AHT is the depth of experience within the company. If you haven’t been with the company for 10+years you’re still new! Also, how willing everyone is to share their knowledge and function as a team across all departments. That culture of teamwork and continuous learning is something I don’t think people see until they begin working with us!
