Q&As with Jeremy Elbert

You started at Advanced Heat Treat Corp. (AHT) in 2001 - over 20 years ago! Can you tell us about your career path at AHT? 

I have worked in the lab since the beginning of my employment. I began on second shift and then made my way to days. I have dealt with a little bit of everything else also - from setting up the salt spray testing when it began to doing aerospace incoming and outgoing reviews.

How did you initially start working at AHT?

We took a tour at AHT for my Industrial Materials class my last year at UNI (University of Northern Iowa). I thought it looked like an interesting process and when it came time to find a job, there was a lab opening.

Over the years, you’ve seen a lot of changes at AHT. What are some big changes that stand out to you?

The most noticeable is our increased capacity in both ion and gas nitriding vessels, along with the building expansion at our MidPort Blvd. location in Waterloo, Iowa.

In a way, you’ve grown up at AHT. What life milestones have you experienced while here?

Yes, I have. In that time, I have gotten married, welcomed our daughter into the world, and bought a house - to name a few. 

As Senior Lab Project Lead, what does a typical day look like for you?

Not too many days look the same. There is always inspecting of outgoing product to verify it meets specifications, also, preparing representative samples, verifying calibrations, keeping up on inventory and cleaning.

Name an accomplishment you are proud of.

I am most proud of our daughter!

Outside of work, how do you like to spend your time?

I grew up in the era of 3-wheelers, so I continue to buy, restore, and resell them. I enjoy being outside and working with these types of things.

What is something people may not know about Jeremy Elbert?

I am the oldest of 4 siblings.

What's one of your favorite things about working at AHT?

I would say my coworkers. I feel we have always had a good group here throughout the years.
