Meet Jason Henry AHT

Q&As with Jason Henry

Jason, you are currently the 2nd Shift Production Supervisor at our Burton Ave. location in Waterloo, Iowa. Tell us about your career path and the different heat treatments you oversee at Advanced Heat Treat Corp.

I originally joined AHT just looking for a short-term job, as I was planning to move out of Iowa. But it didn’t take long for that mindset to change — before I knew it, I could genuinely see myself retiring from AHT. What made the difference was the people and the culture. They are definitely the next best thing to family.

To develop in your new role as a supervisor, you attended a series of leadership classes at Hawkeye Community College. Tell us about that.

The LEAD certificate program focuses on basic leadership skills for new leaders or people aspiring to develop leadership skills. It was a series of 10 four-hour classes meeting once a month. Each month, we would cover a different topic. Some of my favorites were Problem Solving, Motivating and Engaging Employees, and Leadership No-No's that Lead to Legal Issues.

You recently took your team out for a team-building activity. What was that?

I took the team to a new place called Shatter Space. It’s basically a rage room where you pay to break things. It was great watching everyone's faces light up and the smiles getting bigger with each swing of the bat, crowbar, or whatever else you could find to unleash a little of life's frustrations.

Team Outing

When you’re not at work, how do you like to spend your free time?

During my free time, I enjoy spending as much time with my grandson as I can and when I’m not doing that you can find me in the gym, golfing, riding my mountain bike, or kayaking.

What is one thing people may not know about Jason Henry?

I originally went to college for Commercial Art/Graphic Design but quickly realized I enjoyed doing that for myself and not other people or clients. It’s relaxing to me.

At AHT Burton, we run three shifts, making our turnaround 2nd to none.

If you were to give our customers advice, what would you tell them?

Recently I’ve noticed an uptick in customer parts arriving in our shipping department where the containers are falling apart, parts falling through the bottoms and spilling out the sides of containers or pallets. To ensure fast, safe, and efficient return of customer parts, it really starts with proper packing from the customer. At AHT, we strive to make sure your parts arrive undamaged, in tack, and on time.

Thanksgiving is approaching. What are some of your favorite Thanksgiving food items?

I enjoy a nice traditional Thanksgiving dinner. Turkey, baked beans, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, apple pie, corn, sweet potatoes, and of course cranberry sauce, but not the guillotine kind.

(Please note all AHT locations will be closed November 27 & 28 to celebrate the holiday.)
