Family & Flexibility at Forefront for Advanced Heat Treat Corp.

2022 has been deemed the “Great Resignation,” but when many employees across the nation are contemplating new career opportunities, Advanced Heat Treat Corp. (AHT) employees choose to stay – and even recruit their own family members and friends to join the team. In fact, 42% of all new hires were employee referrals.

What makes AHT so desirable that employees even urge their loved ones to join? The nominations this year echoed three major themes: flexible hours/PTO, advancement opportunities and genuine care and support. These attributes led to feelings of appreciation and ability to deal with life whether that was tending to kids or battling health issues.

Laura Bohlen, an employee since 1997, commented, “AHT puts family first – they always have. They truly care about their employees. We all go through difficult times in our lives, AHT is there to support you in every way they can.”

AHT employees in front of MidPort Blvd. locationShannon Conaway personally experienced the support during a difficult time.

“In August of 2021, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I had so many appointments, but AHT worked with me through them all. My daughter also works here and was able to be at every appointment, no questions asked. They checked in with me every week to make sure my workload wasn’t too much. I was able to go home early or come in late if I wasn’t feeling 100%. AHT sent food and cards to me while I was off work after surgery. Here at AHT, we are family and they have been with me and supporting me every step of the way! No one could ever ask for a better place to work.”

Flexibility and support extend beyond difficult life events too. It also applies to involvement in the community and maintaining good work-life balance.

Austin Shepherd started off as a part-time intern while going to college and now is a full-time employee who also coaches high school volleyball.

Shepherd commented, “As the volleyball head coach at Wapsie Valley (Fairbank), AHT has been generous with my flexibility. Between summer open gyms, camps, bus departures for games, etc., they always make it work and I have never been turned down when needing to leave early or come in later.”

AHT provides heat treat services to manufacturers that improve the properties of metal applications, such as increasing hardness, adding corrosion resistance, and overall making parts last longer.

AHT realizes that some people are unsure of what heat treat is and what a job at AHT would entail. Human Resources Manager Jennifer Lassen explains, “No experience is needed. We provide ground-up training. Candidates learn about metals, effects of our process on metal and why quality is so important. They will become experts in an industry little known, but truly essential.”

Jadah Krieger who was recently promoted to quality coordinator added, “There are so many ways to learn new skills or gain knowledge at AHT. With so many employees being here for over 15 years, they provide so much expertise to those who want to learn or are being trained.”

In fact, 33% of full-time employees have been employed by AHT for 15+ years.

Tom Hingtgen added, “I have been with the company for 33 years and in that time, I have seen this company take off and become something special. From co-workers to the front office to the owner himself, they care.”
