Tony Anderson, Aerospace Heat Treat Specialist

Q&As Tony Anderson

Aerospace Specialist is a newer position at AHT. Tell us what your primary responsibilities are and why the position was created?

As an aerospace process specialist, my main duties consist of reviewing all aerospace and defense specifications and processes, along with reviewing orders before and after they have processed. AHT then uses the findings from these reviews to improve our processes for our customers. I help manage the aerospace (and non-aerospace) quality systems, in addition to handling fixture design for the whole facility.

I believe that this position was created to give AHT’s aerospace operation the attention that it required. Most aerospace applications are far more stringent than the usual applications (ag and automotive) and the margin for error in the final product is much smaller. Attention to detail in the aerospace world is of the utmost importance.

Prior to joining AHT, where did you work and how has it helped you in your role today?

Prior to working at AHT, I was the plant manager at Criterion Manufacturing in Waterloo, Iowa. Working in that role really taught me how to manage priorities and diversify my skillset.

When you’re not working, how do you like to spend your free time?

If I am not working on my house or in the yard, you can probably find me fishing an interior river.

AHT recently added gas nitriding to their Nadcap heat treat accreditation. Congratulations!

Adding gas nitriding to our Nadcap accreditation is a big deal for AHT. We are now Nadcap accredited in both ion and gas nitriding. This means that AHT can now handle not only more volume, but we can now service a more diverse range of customer needs. Adding gas nitriding to our arsenal will allow us to handle higher volume part numbers and serve all of our customers’ nitriding needs.
