Q&As with Chris Molencupp
Chris, you joined the AHT team as Michigan’s new Regional Sales Manager in January. Prior to joining AHT, where did you work and how will your past experience benefit our customers?
Previously I worked in the heat-treating/forging industry for over 30 years. I started on the floor and quickly rose up the ranks as Quality Manager, Plant Manager. and finally the VP of Operations and Product Development. Understanding the role of each position and how they interact within an organization has provided me with insight on every stage of the manufacturing process. This insight will help me provide the customer with a process that best meets their overall need in functionality, price, and quality product with exceptional customer service.
Tell us about your training so far. What have you found to be particularly interesting?
I have been very impressed with the training here at AHT. They made sure it contained all of the necessary aspects to make an individual successful. They started me off by getting to know all the individuals at AHT, their roles and responsibilities of everyone at each facility. I was educated on the technology from the computer-controlled nitriding equipment and was shown how all the programs were derived from years of experience in the ion/gas nitriding industry. I spent time with the team on the floor running parts throughout the whole process from checking the parts in at receiving to scheduling them for shipping.
What enticed you to apply at Advanced Heat Treat Corp.?
I wanted to expand my knowledge of metal processing with an established company that was a pioneer in its industry.
What were your first impressions of AHT?
AHT is a larger company that cares about its employees and puts family first.
When you’re not working, how do you like to spend your free time?
I am very busy in activities such as scouting and robotics with my son. I like to watch local professional sports teams like the Detroit Tigers, Red Wings and Lions. (Although I do not openly admit to being a Lion’s fan.)
What’s one accomplishment you are proud of?
I feel the biggest personal accomplishment in my life was the birth of my two children. My daughter, Zoe, shows me everyday the importance of happiness and my son, Zachary, impresses me every day with his accomplishments.
What is one thing people may not know about Chris Molencupp?
I love backpacking - getting out into the wilderness for a week and mentally resetting.
What is one thing our customers may not know about AHT?
Ion nitriding can be a great alternative to older school processes such as salt bath and/or chrome plating.
You volunteer with other community organizations / professional associations. What are those and what is your role within the groups?
I am a member of the Madison Heights Men’s Club. It’s a nonprofit that provide scholarships and gift certificates for those in need at Christmas. Our members show up regularly for the many volunteer projects for the city and school districts. We like to be role models for our youth and teach them how leading by example.
We hear you like to travel. Tell us about one of your favorite vacations?
My favorite vacation was taking the family to Hawaii last year. With my son being a senior, I felt that this might be the last vacation for a while with the whole family. Going to the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific and Pearl Harbor on Memorial Day was a highlight for both me and my son.
